PROFESSIONAL STAFF

David Bennett, PhD PE, is the principal for Bennett Trenchless Engineers which focuses 100% on trenchless design projects. He has special expertise in geotechnical evaluations, microtunneling, tunneling, horizontal directional drilling, and pipe bursting. His extensive experience includes feasibility studies, preliminary design, permit assistance, preparation of plans and specifications, design/constructibility reviews, prequalification packages, planning and supervising geotechnical investigations, and instrumentation and monitoring plans for trenchless technology projects. He has provided consulting expertise to various municipalities, government agencies, engineering firms, and contractors, and actively educates owners, trains construction inspectors, and develops construction guidelines and practice standards for microtunneling, HDD, and pipe bursting. He has also provided expert witness testimony on over 15 cases. He has authored over 50 technical papers on various aspects of trenchless technology, tunneling, geotechnical engineering, and radioactive waste disposal. He is the coauthor of the Horizontal Directional Drilling Good Practices Guidelines and the Pipe Bursting Good Practices Guidelines, and continues to teach both courses. He serves on the Editorial Advisory Board for Trenchless Technology Magazine and serves on the CalTrans Advisory Panel for the Devil’s Slide Tunnel near Pacifica, CA. He was recently selected by a panel of peers as “2005 Trenchless Technology Person of the Year”.

Matthew Wallin, PE has been involved in trenchless design and construction management for over seven years, and has worked on a wide variety of projects and in many different capacities. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Civil Engineering from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. With an emphasis on geotechnical considerations, his experience includes the design and implementation of trenchless technology construction and rehabilitation, geotechnical analysis and design, construction management and inspection, and subsurface exploration.

Mary Asperger received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of California at Berkeley and has recently joined Bennett Trenchless Engineers as an associate engineer. She has experience in construction management in the Bay Area and will be assisting with trenchless design projects.

Kate Wallin received her Bachelor’s Degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH, and her Master’s Degree from the University of California at Berkeley. She is an engineering assistant with Bennett Trenchless and assists with cost estimates, scheduling, specifications, and calculations.

Karen Currie has 17 years of accounting and administrative experience primarily in the commercial real estate industry. Karen joined Bennett Trenchless Engineers in January 2007. She enjoys camping, hiking and spending time entertaining her family and friends.
